Indexing
Completed 14 March 2004
The link below leads to an Excel spreadsheet with a full breakdown of the 15 films with Jewish records from Kalisz currently available from the Mormon Family History Centres. Money raised by the Shtetl CO-OP has been used to get photocopies of index pages from the JGS of Toronto Copy Service (an all volunteer group organised in association with and supported by the JRI-Poland project). Some Russian era indexes (from 1868 onwards) were kindly donated by Jan Engel.
Once transcribed, indexes are checked against the main records and "fine-tuned". Where no indexes exist, these must be created from the records themselves. These are then sent to the Jewish Records Indexing (JRI) Poland project, hosted by Jewishgen, to be incorporated into the main database.
Additional monies raised will be used to pay for professional help in transcribing the Russian era indexes if time and/or expertise is not available from the Shtetl CO-OP members.
